GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: All positions will work under the direct supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in a team oriented environment to maintain & repair multiple Fire Apparatus Fleets.
Perspective employees must be able to work as part of a team and by themselves. Duties include performing routine scheduled maintenance and inspection along with all types of repairs on all types & brands of fire apparatus. The Fire Mechanic I & II, and the Certified Diesel Technician positions will also be required to perform heavy line work as maybe necessary from time to time. Examples include but are not limited to, diesel engine repairs (cylinder head gaskets, injector replacement, etc.), transmission repairs, drivetrain repairs, steering & suspension repairs as well as fire pump and other fire apparatus related repairs. Additionally, all positions will be required to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair problems with electrical & electronic systems such as engine, transmission and pump controls as well as different types of multiplexed systems found on modern fire apparatus. Some light fabrication may also be required from time to time. The Fire Mechanic III will oversee the work of all Fire Mechanic I & II positions and all Certified Diesel Technician positions.
All applicants must be in good physical shape due to the type and nature of work required and must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test & comprehensive background check.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS -
All applicants must possess:
1) A high school diploma or equivalent,
2) A California Commercial Class “A” Driver’s License (or obtain one within 3 months),
3) Their own tools,
4) Reliable transportation.
The Fire Mechanic I, II & III applicants must also have a minimum of 2, 5 & 10 years full time experience respectively working on fire apparatus and possess current ASE “T” Series and Fire Mechanic I, II & III (or EVTCC equivalent) certifications, which must be maintained throughout their employment.
Employees may be required to travel to fire stations throughout San Diego & South Riverside Counties.
Additionally, applicants must be familiar with Microsoft programs such as Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook & OneNote and be proficient at using Windows based PC's & tablets for documentation and diagnostic purposes.
